___bluebull HSU trustees elect Brooks. E.R. "Dick" Brooks of Dallas has been elected chairman of the Hardin-Simmons University board of trustees. He succeeds Tina Hunter of Abilene, who served two terms. Brooks is retired chief executive officer of the Central and South West Corp. Other officers include Vice Chairman Joe Sharp of Granbury, Vice Chairman and Assistant Secretary Robert Lacewell of Abilene, and Secretary Inez Kelley of Houston.
___bluebull Van Zandt affirms SBC. Messengers to the annual meeting of Van Zandt Baptist Association, meeting at First Baptist Church of Edgewood Oct. 9, adopted a resolution affirming "our belief in the Southern Baptist Convention, Cooperative Program, International Mission Board, North American Mission Board and our six seminaries in their training and equipping of men and women for ministry."
___bluebull Neches River opposes BGCT change. Neches River Baptist Association has adopted a resolution opposing "efforts being made to distance the Baptist General Convention of Texas from the Southern Baptist Convention." The resolution specifically states opposition to a proposal that would reduce funding for the six SBC seminaries and the SBC Executive Committee. "We believe that God's desire is not division but reconciliation, and (we) pray to that end," it stated.
___bluebull UMHB names assistant alumni director. Donna Kemp has been named assistant director for alumni relations at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. A former employee of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, Kemp most recently has worked for Ranger College in Ranger.
___bluebull HBTS gets computer lab grant. Hispanic Baptist Theological School received a $26,000 grant from the High Plains Christian Ministries Foundation in Amarillo to install a state-of-the-art computer lab. The lab includes 13 stations equipped with personal computers, printers, an overhead screen and computer furniture. Tim Holloway (shown cutting ribbon), president of High Plains Christian Ministries Foundation, was the keynote speaker at a special chapel service where he was presented with a plaque from HBTS President Albert Reyes (right). Also shown in the photo is Isaac Flores, HBTS business manager.
___bluebull Texans in Africa. Members of churches in Dogwood Trails Area, Golden Triangle Baptist Association and Rehoboth Baptist Association are working with International Crusade Ministries and Texas evangelist John David Crow to take the gospel to Malinda and Kalifi, Kenya, Africa, Nov. 1-15. Teams will go "from village to village and hut to hut" to invite people to revival services. The week will culminate with an areawide rally.
