___An "all-out, obviously very expensive" effort by Southern Baptist Convention leaders to derail Texas Baptists' efforts to choose a new way to allocate Cooperative Program funds smacks of desperation, the Baptist General Convention of Texas' Committee on Baptist Integrity said Oct. 5.
___The SBC initiative also is a biased attempt to influence BGCT votes and is indicative of the SBC's willingness to crush any opposition, the committee charged.

Texas Baptist Men pilot project delivers aid to crime victims

___DALLAS--A Christian couple sits in a hospital waiting room with a single mother whose 3-year-old daughter was hit by a drunk driver.
___A volunteer repairs broken windows and torn screens for an elderly victim of a home burglary.
___They are members of the SAVE team, an interdenominational victim-relief ministry being piloted in southwest Dallas by Texas Baptist Men. The name is an acronym for "serving, assisting in victim emergencies."

Hemphill urges students to be messengers to BGCT and vote

___FORT WORTH--Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary students have been urged to attend the Baptist General Convention of Texas annual session, specifically to vote on a proposal regarding seminary funding.
___Southwestern President Ken Hemphill issued the plea in a chapel address and in a full-page column in the campus newspaper, The Scroll. He also urged students to encourage their churches to fund the seminary directly or through designated gifts.
