MORE THAN 200 RESIDENTS, area leaders and Buckner staff members gathered Oct. 27 to commemorate the opening of Calder Woods, a Buckner retirement community in Beaumont. Joining Buckner trustees and management in cutting the ribbon were leaders of Capital Senior Living Inc. and members of the Beaumont Chamber of Commerce. Cutting the ribbon are Calder Woods resident Mavoureen Harrell, Beaumont Mayor David Moore and Buckner President Ken Hall.
Buckner opens new Beaumont facility
___BEAUMONT--With help from the mayor and nearly 250 Beaumont residents, officials of Buckner Retirement Services officially opened Calder Woods, a continuing care retirement community, Oct. 27.
___"We believe Calder Woods is the finest continuing care community in this part of the state," said Mary Stephens, vice president for Buckner Retirement Services. "We are so grateful for the support of the Beaumont community in making this a reality."
___Calder Woods offers a full range of care for senior adults, including 94 independent-living units, 30 assisted-living units, 30 nursing-care beds and 16 special-care beds. Calder Woods is managed by Capital Senior Living, one of the largest managers of senior adult retirement communities in the nation.
___Buckner President Ken Hall said the opening of Calder Woods enables Buckner to further its commitment of providing ministry to senior adults. He congratulated the Beaumont community for rallying to support the construction and for working closely with Buckner to "make this dream a reality."
___Michael Kaufman, executive director of Calder Woods, said the staff and residents are anxious to show off the new facility to the community.
___"We are excited about the opportunity to open our doors for the entire community to get a good look at Calder Woods," Kaufman said. "We're proud of what we think is the premier retirement community in Southeast Texas."
___In addition to Beaumont, Buckner Retirement Services currently owns residential retirement care facilities in Houston, Austin, Longview and Dallas.
___Buckner also will offer services for senior adults through Buckner ElderCare Services. Buckner ElderCare provides geriatric care management, maintains a caregiver registry and provides spiritual support through a pastoral care program.
