___bluebull ETBU dedicates stadium. East Texas Baptist University officials dedicate the recently completed Ornelas Stadium in pregame ceremonies. The completion and dedication of the multimillion dollar facility comes a full two years ahead of schedule. "This is an exciting day for East Texas Baptist University," said President Bob Riley. "What began as a dream to return the tradition of Tiger football to the university has now become a reality. The generosity of Louise and Joseph Ornelas has not only made this day possible, but has done so several years ahead of schedule."
___bluebull Davis writes on Matthew. Wayland University Chancellor Wallace Davis has written a book of devotionals on the Gospel of Matthew. "Breakfast with Matthew" offers 126 brief devotionals that use illustrations, personal experiences or spiritual revelations to enhance the readings listed. Copies of the book are available at the campus bookstore.
___bluebull Handbells sought. The handbell choir of Hunters' Glen Baptist Church in Plano is planning a mission trip to Israel in June 2001. The choir is looking for a three-octave handbell set in good condition to use for concerts and teaching that can be left with the First Baptist Church of Bethlehem. Handbells are a rarity in Israel. ___bluebull Writers' Festival planned. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will hold its annual Writers' Festival Jan. 4-6. Early registration deadline is Dec. 10. Keynote speaker will be Clyde Edgerton, author of "Raney," "Walking Across Egypt," "Killer Diller," and "The Floatplane Letters." Presentations will be made by 90 authors.
___bluebull HBU honors Cook. Susan Cook, associate professor of biology at Houston Baptist University, has been named recipient of this year's Opal Goolsby Outstanding Teacher Award.
___bluebull NAMB special to air. "Prisoners of Hope," a documentary produced by the broadcast communications unit of the North American Mission Board, will air on KXAS-TV, channel 5 in the Dallas/North Central Texas area Nov. 19 at 11:30 a.m.
___bluebull Hedges/Tiller scholarship named. Hardin-Simmons University has announced creation of a new scholarship named in honor of A.W. and Mozelle Hedges and Dewitt and Betty Tiller. The namesakes are the parents of donors Eddie and Elaine Hedges of Sudan. The scholarship will benefit students planning to enter some area of ministry.
___bluebull "Wonderful Life" staged. First Baptist Church of Dallas will present the musical version of "It's a Wonderful Life" Dec. 8-23 at the Majestic Theatre in downtown Dallas. More than 300 people form the large cast, chorus and orchestra. Tickets are $12, $15 and $20 and are available at the church by calling (214) 969-2422 and at all TicketMaster locations.
