11 Texans appointed by IMB
___Eleven Texans were among 33 people appointed missionaries by the Southern Baptist Convention's International Mission Board Nov. 7.
___Karl and Julie Bannert of Fort Worth will serve in the Serbian Republic of Bosnia, training volunteers to reach the Serbian people. The Bannerts are members of Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Other churches they consider influential include Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston and University Heights Baptist Church in Huntsville.
___Marshall and Susan Campbell will serve in Chile on a church planting team in Santiago. He will be the administrative coordinator for the strategy teams and personnel in Chile. The Campbells live in Leonard and are members of First Baptist Church there.
___Al and Diana Hoopes will work in the Philippines strengthening and equipping 20 churches already in the East Coast Association. They also will work directly with the Mandaya people group living on the east coast of Mindanao. They have served in the Philippines since 1998 with the International Service Corps, a missions program through the IMB. Hoopes previously served as pastor of South Euless Baptist Church in Euless and Samuels Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth. The Hoopeses live in Euless and are members of Celebration Community Church in Fort Worth.
___Chris and Cathie Smith will work in southwest Spain doing relational evangelism, discipleship training and informal leadership training. He served in Peru in 1998 with the ISC. He also started churches while working for Rosen Heights Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Since June, he has been pastor of Light and Salt Korean Baptist Church in Fort Worth. She served as a summer missionary in 1992 and for a year in Japan with the ISC. She has been the worship leader at the Korean church where her husband is pastor. They count University Baptist Church in Fort Worth as influential in their spiritual growth.
___Barry and Lisa Swanson will work in Scotland to mobilize prayer support, volunteers and resources for work among the Scots. Swanson also will work with team members in Scotland as a resource for churches in the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. She will work specifically with local women and neighborhood groups. She previously went to Kenya in 1984 as a journeyman, a two-year mission opportunity for young adults through the IMB. The Swansons live in Tyler and are members of Friendly Baptist Church. They consider Westwood Baptist Church in Tyler another influential church in their ministry.
___Bonnie Whitten will work in Bolivia reaching out to university students and professionals through various community and social programs. She also will coordinate the work of volunteer teams to Bolivia. Her husband, Darrel, was a pastor of Texas and Louisiana churches before his death in 1988 due to heart disease.
