Beth Moore receives award. Beth Moore, director of Living Proof Ministries in Houston, received the Texas Baptist Communications Award Nov. 15. The Baptist General Convention of Texas communications advisory committee presents the award annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the religious life of Texas through media. Moore is a popular women's ministry speaker whose books and video-based Bible study series are used in churches throughout the country.

UMHB gets $50,000. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor has been awarded a $50,000 grant from M.D. Anderson Foundation in Houston in memory of Daurice Bowmer, late wife of Jim Bowmer of Temple. Bowmer was a trustee of the university and founder of Peaceable Kingdom in Bell
___County. The grant has been designated for the Parker Academic Center, which will house the schools of business and education.

LifeWay opens store in Katy. LifeWay Christian Stores will open its newest store in Katy Dec. 6 with a grand opening celebration Dec. 9. Located at 20230 Katy Freeway, this store is LifeWay's 95th store nationwide. Featured during the grand opening weekend will be Mike Richards of radio station KPRC-AM/950, who will be reporting live by remote from the store.

Klepac crowned in Belton. Ashley Klepac of Katy was crowned Miss Mary Hardin-Baylor Nov. 18 at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Klepac represented the Student Government Association, and her platform was teen girls' self-esteem. Others in the top five finalists were Amanda Wilkerson of Temple, Catherine Borg of Spring, Erica Sparks of Lufkin and Lauren Osborne of Bryan.

HPU awards Borras. Jose Borras of Madrid, Spain, recently received the honorary doctor of divinity degree from Howard Payne University. Borras was recognized for his contributions to Baptist work in Spain as an educator, pastor, speaker and author. Throughout his ministry, he has served as a liaison between the Baptist General Convention of Texas and Spain.

Grant-writing workshop set. The Texas Baptist Missions Foundation will offer a grant-writing workshop in San Antonio Dec. 6, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The location is Hispanic Baptist Theological School, 8019 S. Pan Am Expressway.
