Longtime chaplain retiring. Curtis Holland has announced his retirement as chaplain at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in Waco, where he has served more than 27 years. A farewell reception will be held Jan. 14, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the auditorium of the Julian Pace Building. Holland has been director of pastoral care at the Baptist hospital since 1975. He has been called "Waco's pastor," helping families in times of joy and sorrow. In order to further pastoral care efforts in Central Texas, the Holland family is establishing an endowment for pastoral care at Hillcrest.
___ Wayland graduates 60. Dick Maples, associate executive director of the
___Baptist General Convention of Texas, was the commencement speaker at Wayland Baptist University's Dec. 9 graduation ceremonies. Sixty graduates received diplomas in the winter commencement.
___ HSU honors two. Hardin-Simmons University conferred honorary doctorates Dec. 16 to Claude Hicks, retired president of Hendrick Home for Children, and Yvonne Stackhouse, author of the school's centennial history.
___ Clarification. A photo caption on the front page of the Dec. 4 issue incorrectly identified missionary Lindy Howard as a Brownsville native, due to incorrect information received from the International Mission Board. Howard was born in Fort Worth and later lived in other Texas cities.
