___Jim Cymbala, pastor of the multi-racial Brooklyn Tabernacle and author of the best-selling "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire," will be a keynote speaker for the opening session of the Texas Baptist Evangelism Conference Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Fort Worth Convention

___Also speaking at the Monday evening session is Al Meredith, pastor of Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth. Wedgwood was the scene of random violence last September when a gunman burst into a prayer service and shot 14 young people--seven fatally--before turning his gun on himself.
___On Tuesday evening, conference-goers will hear from Bill Pinson, who retires Jan. 31 after more than 17 years as executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and from Charles Wade, who assumes the post as BGCT executive director Feb. 1.
___Other key speakers are Denton Lotz, general secretary of the Baptist World Alliance; Chris Simmons, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church in inner-city Dallas; Robert Jeffress, pastor of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls; Duane Brooks, pastor of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston; and Kie Bowman, pastor of Hyde Park Baptist Church in Austin.
___Gary Singleton from The Heights Baptist Church in Richardson will present a theme interpretation of the conference emphasis, "Following Jesus into the 21st Century: Weeping, Sowing, Harvesting, Rejoicing."
___Featured musicians include soloist Jaime Parrish, the Cruse Family, and violin soloist Ludwingk Rios. Worship leaders are Keith Ferguson and the First Baptist Church of Dallas choir and orchestra, John Lee and the Travis Avenue Baptist Church of Fort Worth praise team, and Jon Stricklan from Valley Ranch Baptist Church leading a combined choir from Dallas-Fort Worth area churches.
___In addition to the general sessions, the Evangelism Conference includes more than 40 special interest seminars ranging from "Youth Evangelism Strategy" to "Reaching Senior Adults in the 21st Century." The seminars will be offered during three breakout sessions from 1:30 to 4:15 p.m. on Feb. 1.
___Events prior to the Evangelism Conference include workshops and conferences for Texas college students, women, Hispanic Texas Baptists, "innovative" church leaders and vocational evangelists.
___"One Name" is the theme of the Texas Collegiate Evangelism Workshop Jan. 28-29 at First Baptist Church in Arlington. Key speakers include Rollin Delap, student evangelism consultant with the North American Mission Board; Kevin Ueckert, university minister at Central Baptist Church of Bryan; and Buddy Young, director of Baptist Student Ministry at West Texas A&M in Canyon. Music is by Jeff Berry and the Band.
___Women Reaching Texas will sponsor six seminars, a luncheon and a concert of prayer, from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Jan. 29 at First Baptist Church of Garland. Debbie Williams, author of the "Discovering His Passion" Bible study for women, will be the featured luncheon speaker. Deirdre LaNoue from Dallas Baptist University will lead the concert of prayer, and K'Lin Noble of Midland will lead in praise and worship.
___Women Reaching Texas also will host similar events from 11:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Feb. 1 at the Fort Worth Convention Center. Evelyn Christenson, author of "What Happens When Women Pray," is the featured luncheon speaker and will lead a concert of prayer. Noelia Cavazos of Lubbock, music director for the Texas Hispanic Evangelism Conference, will lead in praise and worship.
___The Hispanic Evangelism Conference on Jan. 31 includes a selection of Spanish-language and bilingual special interest seminars from 9:30 to 11:45 a.m., in addition to the general session from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Featured speakers are Roberto Arrubla Jr. from Iglesia Bautista El Buen Pastor in Fort Worth and Leovardo Flores from Iglesia Bautista Nueva Vida in Vernon. Jonathan Aragon from First Baptist Church of Duncanville will be the worship leader.
___The Hispanic conference also includes a banquet from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 1. Key speaker is Mario Hernandez of Mision Bautista Hispana Parkway in Lubbock.
___The 2000 Innovative Church Conference, from 9 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. on Jan. 31 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Fort Worth, will be a day-long "idea workshop" featuring two contemporary worship services and a series of break-out sessions. Special interest conferences topics include "The Art of Relating in Transition," "Good Things Come in Small Groups" and "From God as Guest Speaker to Mayberry RFD."
___The Vocational Evangelists Conference, from 12:30 to 4:40 p.m. on Jan. 31 at the Radisson Hotel in Fort Worth, features Southwestern Seminary President Ken Hemphill, Voddie Baucham of Sugar Land, John Karl Davis of Fort Worth and Jon Moore of Flower Mound.
___Texas Baptist evangelists also will host a luncheon at the Fort Worth Convention Center immediately following the morning session of the Evangelism Conference Feb. 1. O.S. Hawkins, president of the Southern Baptist Convention Annuity Board, will be the speaker.
___Immediately prior to the Jan. 31 evening session of the Evangelism Conference, banquets are scheduled for university students, bivocational and smaller membership church pastors and wives, Black Texas Baptist pastors and wives, and pastors of "pacesetter" churches that lead the way in baptisms.
___"That Old Time Religion Into the 21st Century" is the theme of a "senior saints" banquet slated for 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 1, immediately before the final session of the Evangelism Conference.
