Scholarship honors Ed Schmeltekopf ___Ed Schmeltekopf, who retired Dec. 31 after 19 years as associate executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, has been honored with a scholarship at Truett Theological Seminary and Logsdon School of Theology. ___The scholarship was established by the BGCT's Christian Education Coordinating Board and Human Welfare Coordinating Board and the 21 entities related to the convention through the two boards. ___It will be a one-time award each year to a first-year student at each of the two graduate schools of theology. Guidelines call for the recipients to be graduates of a Texas Baptist university who display the potential for excellence in ministry and exhibit a spirit of humble service. ___The scholarship is called the E. Edward Schmeltekopf Servant Leader Scholarship. ___"Dr. Schmeltekopf is a true servant leader, and in his position worked closely with the educational and human welfare ministries of the convention," said Ed Rogers, director of the Human Welfare Coordinating Board. ___"Because of his pastoral background and keen interest in theological training, our boards and institutions felt this would be a fitting and meaningful way to express our appreciation." ___Funding for the scholarship primarily will come from the ministry institutions related to the convention, Rogers said. However, should any individual or church wish to contribute to the scholarship fund, they may send the gift to the Schmelte-kopf Scholarship at 333 N. Washington, Dallas 75246-1798.
