AROUND THE STATE
___bluebull Five Texans have received appointments from the North American Mission Board. Garvon and Cindy Golden, natives of Bogata, serve as associational missionaries in Williston, N.D., for the West River Association. Golden has served many Texas churches, including Lone Pine Church in Avery, Mount Olive Church in Reno, New Salem Church in Boxelder, Gober Church in Gober, Emory Church in Emory and Bounds Church in Powderly. groundbreaking

___bluebull Don Caldwell has celebrated his fifth anniversary as pastor of Rainbow Church in Rainbow.
___bluebull First Church in Stamford will celebrate its 100th anniversary Feb. 22 and Feb. 26-27. The Singing Men of West Texas will perform at 7 p.m. Feb. 22. On Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m., children's activities and a reception will be held. Jack Nivens, director of missions for Double Mountain Area, will be the guest speaker at 7 p.m. Sunday will include special music, speakers, worship and lunch. A time capsule ceremony, a memorial program and special speaker Bill Pinson, executive director emeritus of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will follow lunch. ___bluebull Mark Tanner, 42, Feb. 5 in Dallas. He was the son of Bill Tanner, former president of the Home Mission Board and past executive director of the Oklahoma convention. He is survived by his wife, Lisa; parents, Bill and Ellen; brothers, Bill and Keith; and sister, Kimberly Salter.
