Stagg dies. Harry Stagg, 101, described as a "giant" among Southern Baptists in New Mexico, died Feb. 6 at his Albuquerque home. Stagg was executive director of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico 30 years before retiring in 1968. Stagg is credited with persuading the Southern Baptist Convention to locate a conference center at Glorieta, N.M.

Norton to Lord's Day Alliance. Tim Norton, business manager for the Georgia Christian Index since 1996, has been elected executive director of The Lord's Day Alliance of the United States. The ecumenical organization is devoted to promoting observance of the Sabbath. A graduate and former staff member of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Norton previously worked at Palm Beach Atlantic College, the Southern Baptist Convention's Brotherhood Commission and Home Mission Board.

Week of prayer goes online. Southern Baptists will have an opportunity to interact personally with North American Mission Board missionaries March 8 during a special "Live On-Mission Chat." The event--accessible through the Internet at www.anniearmstrong.com from 6-10 p.m. Central time--is related to the March 5-12 week of prayer for North American missions and the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions.

Arizona calls special session. Messengers to a special called session of the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention March 23 in Phoenix will determine the relationship of Grand Canyon University to the state convention. Messengers will be asked to ratify a resolution unanimously adopted by the state convention's executive board expressing "great disappointment" but allowing Grand Canyon University to sever its ties with the state convention. The executive board also voted to withdraw Cooperative Program funding from the university.

Hillcrest's Scott leads association. Richard Scott, president of Hillcrest Health System in Waco, has begun a two-year term as president of the Baptist Hospital Association.

Correction: A photo caption on the back page of last week's paper incorrectly identified Noelia Cavasos singing at the Women Reaching Texas luncheon. The photo actually showed Jennifer Rainwater of Travis Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth singing at the Tuesday morning session of the Evangelism Conference. Rainwater is a music evangelist.
