HOUSTON BAPTIST UNIVERSITY recently honored the founders of the university and those who served on the university's initial board of directors. Honored were James Riley, a member of the 1960 board; Dona Williamson, who represented her husband, J.E. Williamson, a 1960 board member; Stewart Morris, a founding father and 1960 trustee and a current advisory trustee; and Gilbert Turner, founding father of the endowed scholarship program and a current advisory trustee.

___ First Church in Anton celebrated its 75th anniversary Jan. 30. Former pastors and special singing contributed to the celebration. Rush Coffman is pastor.
___ Eisenhauer Road Church in San Antonio will celebrate its 40th anniversary Feb. 6. Activities include a catered meal following the morning service, and an afternoon celebration that will include a history video, a plaque dedication and a balloon launch. ___Deaths
___ Taylor Henley, 82, Jan. 26 in San Angelo. Henley served Baptist Memorials Center in San Angelo for 29 years--first as chaplain, development administrator, public relations director and then as president and chief executive officer of the retirement facility for 19 years. He also was pastor of North Coleman Church in Coleman, First Church in Robert Lee, First Church in Hebbronville, First Church in Gorman and Immanuel Church in San Angelo. He also was active as an interim pastor in West Texas and led revivals throughout Texas and Missouri. As a chaplain during World War II, he spent 555 days in combat earning the Silver Star, Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Henley also was active in Baptist life, serving on the board of trustees of Howard Payne University as vice president; as moderator of Concho Valley Association; a member of the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas; four terms as representative of institutions on the Human Welfare Coordinating Board; an officer of the Texas Baptist Development Association; and president of the public relations and development association of Texas Baptists. Henley grew active in missions following his retirement, leading projects in Mexico, Brazil, Kenya, Wales, Taiwan, Singapore, India, Peru and the Ukraine Republic. He was a member of First Church in San Angelo. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary. He is survived by his wife, Eva; son, John; step-daughters, Anne Morton and Jann Aldredge-Clanton; brother, John; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
___ May Cate, 101, Jan. 14 in Van Alstyne. Cate was a member of First Church in Van Alstyne for 63 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Homer, and her daughter, Doris. She is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Baker, Ruby Noel and MildredParker; two sons, Charles and Maurice; two sisters, Bonnie Vermillion and Leta Howard; 21 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
