___bluebull Lindsay dies. Homer Lindsay Jr., co-pastor of the nation's second-largest Southern Baptist church, died Feb. 13, nine days after being diagnosed with lymphoma. Lindsay, 72, was pastor of the 26,000-member First Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Fla., for 31 years. He shared that role with Co-Pastor Jerry Vines, a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention. Lindsay reportedly learned he had cancer of the immune system Feb. 4, just one day after a funeral for his 38-year-old son, Homer Lindsay III, who suffered a fatal heart attack Jan. 28.
___bluebull BP head to retire. Herb Hollinger has announced his retirement as vice president for convention news from the Southern Baptist Convention Executive Committee effective July 1. Hollinger has overseen Baptist Press, the SBC's official daily news service, since March 1, 1991. No successor has yet been named.
