___bluebull Wayland preview. Wayland Baptist University's college preview celebration, "Big Weekend," is scheduled for March 24-25 on the Plainview campus. The event for high school juniors and seniors also will feature a concert by the Christian rock group Petra with The Waiting and The Frantics. Cost for the entire weekend is $20 per student, which covers lodging with a Wayland student host, all meals and entry into all events. ___bluebull UMHB ranks well on report card. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor ranks 13th among the 86 education preparation programs in Texas, according to a "National Report Card" published by the U.S. Department of Education. Along with eight other education preparation programs, UMHB's School of Education had a passing rate of 97 percent in graduates qualifying for state certification as teachers. UMHB ranked first among the eight Baptist universities in Texas in the passing rate on the national report card and was tied for seventh in the 34 private universities in the state.
___bluebull Ministry conference set in Belton. The religion department of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor will offer a conference on social trends affecting churches and Christian ministry. The March 27 event will begin at 11:30 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. Speaker is Jose Martinez, professor of sociology. The conference and lunch are free, but registration is required by calling (254) 295-4568.
___bluebull Bruce named interim. Keith Bruce has been named interim director of the Human Welfare Coordinating Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, following the Feb. 29, retirement of Ed Rogers. Bruce will continue as director of the Christian Education Coordinating Board, but will serve as interim director of the human welfare board until decisions are made regarding restructuring, said BGCT Executive Director Charles Wade.
___bluebull Patterson at Prestonwood. Southern Baptist Convention President Paige Patterson will speak at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano Sunday, March 19, at 6 p.m. His topic is "The Return of Christ."
___bluebull HPU revival planned. Howard Payne University will hold its annual Resurrection Week spring revival April 17-19, with Brian Harbour, pastor of First Baptist Church of Richardson.
