Prayer for Hindus urged. The International Mission Board is calling Southern Baptists to a period of focused prayer and fasting on behalf of the 850 million Hindus of India. The focus from 6 p.m. June 9 through 6 p.m. June 10 coincides with the 14th annual Day of Prayer and Fasting for World Evangelization. The IMB has developed a prayer kit to guide churches in the observation. Kits may be ordered by calling (800) 866-3621.

Marianne Williams of La Porte March 9. Bell, organist at First Baptist Church of Laredo since 1946, has been a contributor to the seminary's work, with a special interest in the San Antonio campus. Williams is the son of J. Howard Williams, the seminary's fourth president who also was an executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Williams and his wife recently made possible construction of a landscaped mall on the campus named in honor of his parents.

Scouting book published. A new book detailing the history of Baptist involvement in Scouting has been published by the Association of Baptists for Scouting. The book was written by Chip Turner, a Baptist Scouting leader and employee of the SBC North American Mission Board's media and technology group based in Fort Worth. Free housing at SBC. First Baptist Church of Orlando, Fla., is offering free lodging in the home of church members during the June 10-14 meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention. Filmmaker to speak. Phil Cooke, a director of the motion picture "Omega Code," will speak in chapel and lead seminars at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth April 11. The schedule includes a 9 a.m. seminar on "The Biggest Mistakes of Christian TV Production," followed by a 10 a.m. chapel address on "Taking a Message of Hope to a Sight and Sound Generation." At noon, he will lead a seminar on "Using and Handling the Media in Ministry." There is no charge for the sessions, and they are open to the public.

Home Life editor resigns. After three and a half years as editor of Home Life magazine, Jon Walker has resigned. The popular family magazine is published by LifeWay Christian Resources in Nashville, Tenn. Walker and his wife lost a newborn son last year to a rare genetic disease, Trisomy 18. The Walkers learned about the disorder before the baby was born and decided to carry him to full term, knowing he would die. Life circumstances such as this have spawned a "restlessness" he interprets to be God's leading in a new direction, Walker said.
