Denison, Campbell, Morgan
and Newton to chair study committees

___Clyde Glazener, president of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, and Rudy Sanchez, chairman of the BGCT Executive Board, have appointed two convention-mandated committees to study mission-sending agencies and seminaries.
___Glazener and BGCT vice presidents Lorenzo Pena of El Paso and Bill Ballou of Abilene also have named two study committees to examine the basis of association formation and the BGCT's relationship with churches aligned with another state convention.
___Jim Denison, pastor of Park Cities Baptist Church in Dallas, was appointed chairman of the committee to study the financial resources, theological positions, mission strategy and philosophy of Southern Baptist mission-sending agencies.
___The committee was created in response to a motion made by Nathan Porter of Waco's Calvary Baptist Church at the BGCT annual session in El Paso last November. Porter, a retired SBC home missionary who helps the BGCT advance hunger ministries, also was named to the committee.
___Other members are Betty Law, Fort Worth; Ophelia Humphrey, Amarillo; Ruth Andrade, Midland; John Chavarria, El Paso; Andy Davis, Belton; Bud Hudgins, Houston; Al Burns, Dallas; Mitch Randall, Fort Worth; Ron Lyles, Pasadena; Paul Saylors, Tyler; Paul Powell, Tyler; Jack Smith, Orange; Doug Jackson, Corpus Christi; Presnall Wood, Dallas; Bill Noble, Brownfield; Beth Pratt, Floydada; and Carol Carter, Pasadena.
___Bob Campbell, pastor of Westbury Baptist Church in Houston, was appointed chairman of the committee to study the financial resources, theological positions and philosophies of Southern Baptist and BGCT-supported seminaries.
___The committee was formed in response to a motion made at the BGCT annual session in El Paso by Bill Shiell of First Baptist Church of McGregor. Shiell also was appointed to the committee.
___Other members are James Fuller, Beaumont; Rick Davis, Midlothian; Ron Cook, Brownwood; Hulett Gloer, Corpus Christi; Gayle Taylor, Arlington; Dorothy Renfro, San Marcos; Mario Ramos, San Antonio; James Shields, Abilene; Dowell Loftis, San Antonio; Mike Chancellor, Abilene; Dean Dickens, Dallas; George Gaston, Houston; Leroy Fenton, Waxahachie; and Joe Trull, Driftwood.
___Darold Morgan of Richardson, retired president of the Southern Baptist Convention Annuity Board, was appointed chairman of the committee to study BGCT relationships with churches aligned with another state convention. The committee was created in response to a motion to the convention recommended by the BGCT Administrative Committee.
___Committee members are Harold Branch, Corpus Christi; Leon McBeth, Fort Worth; Glen Schmucker, Dallas; Bob Schmeltekopf, Marble Falls; Julio Guarneri, Fort Worth; Darrell Baergen, Abilene; Alice Curtis, Fort Worth; Ella Pritchard, Corpus Christi; Irma Alvarado, Donna; Gus Reyes, El Paso; Phil Lineberger, Sugar Land; and Charles Lee Williamson, Dallas.
___Mark Newton, pastor of Baptist Temple in San Antonio, was named chairman of the committee to study the basis of association formation. The committee was created in response to a motion from the BGCT Administrative Committee.
