___bluebull Gregg Cantrell, chair of the department of history at Hardin-Simmons University, has been named winner of the Ima Hogg Historical Acheivement Award for his research on a Texas history topic based largely on the resources in the Center for American History. He received the award for his book "Stephen F. Austin: Empresario of Texas." The book

___Deaths
___bluebull Pauline Patterson, 93, March 27 in El Paso. An emeritus Southern Baptist missionary, she and her husband, Frank, were appointed by the Foreign Mission Board in 1939. She taught at the Mexican Baptist Theological Seminary in El Paso until 1944, when she began preparing Spanish-language literature for nursery and children's workers for the Baptist Spanish Publishing House, which her husband directed from 1943 through 1970. The couple promoted Spanish literature in Spanish-speaking countries for 18 months prior to their retirement in 1972. In 1973, they served six months in a special assignment at the Baptist publishing house in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She is survived by her husband; two sons, Burton and Donald; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
