Jones to McAfee. Peter Rhea Jones has been named professor of preaching and theology at Mercer University's McAfee School of Theology. Jones, who will turn 63 next week, has been pastor of First Baptist Church in Decatur, Ga., for 20 years. He taught New Testament at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., 11 years before coming to the suburban Atlanta congregation in 1979.

Hunger giving rises in SBC. Giving to the Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund finished last year on an upswing, according to Steve Nelson, director of hunger concerns for the SBC's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission. Receipts for hunger and relief in 1999 increased 2.8 percent over the previous year, to a total of $10.7 million.

National CP gaining at mid-year. Gifts to the Southern Baptist Convention's Cooperative Program unified budget are up 5.79 percent over the same six-month period last year. Since the start of the SBC's fiscal year Oct. 1, $88.08 million has been given, compared to $83.26 million the previous year. Designated gifts for the six-month period were $101.5 million, up 7.07 percent from $94.8 million the previous year.

FamilyNet airs new show. "At Home--Live!" a daily morning show featuring hosts Chuck and Jenni Borsellino, premiered April 3 on FamilyNet, the national television network operated by the North American Mission Board's broadcast communications group in Fort Worth. The show is a live version of the Borsellinos' "Open House," which has been produced since 1995 from the Borsellinos' former home of Ontario, Canada, and broadcast on FamilyNet for a year.

Seminarians record 750 decisions. The 83 students sent out by Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary for spring break evanglism projects led 150 people to faith in Jesus Christ and registered 600 other spiritual decisions. The students preached 450 sermons throughout the week.

NAMB has evangelistic websites. The North American Mission Board is helping lead an average of 200 people each month to faith in Christ through interactive Internet websites. Addresses for NAMB-related sites include www.thegoodnews.org, www.studentz.com, www.kidzplace.org and www.thekristo.com. An estimated 500,000 individuals viewed the combined NAMB sites during 1999.

Cox to lead IMB communications. Larry Cox, regional leader of International Mission Board work for northern Africa and the Middle East, was elected by board trustees March 31 to serve as the agency's vice president for public relations and development. Cox and his wife, Cheryl, were appointed as Southern Baptist agricultural missionaries to Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso in 1975. After a stint in which he served as assistant to the president at Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., they were named representatives of Cooperative Services International, a Southern Baptist aid organization, in 1994. He was named regional leader for northern Africa and the Middle East after serving as an associate to the area director for IMB work in Europe.
