___bluebull DBU students help storm victims. Forty students from Dallas Baptist University participated in an annual ministry emphasis April 1, including 30 who assisted victims of the March 28 tornadoes that struck Fort Worth and Arlington. Another 10 students worked with Mission Arlington.
___bluebull Baptist Men to dedicate facility. Members of 23 Texas Baptist Men ministry fellowships will demonstrate skills ranging from building campfires to piloting helicopters during the "Gathering of the Father's Family" from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 6 in Dallas. The event, held on the grounds of the new Robert Dixon Missions Training Center, will feature the dedication of the new Texas Baptist Men ministry facility at 2 p.m. The 18-wheel Texas Baptist disaster relief mobile unit and smaller regional units will set up field kitchens, providing a free noon meal. The facility is located at 5351 Catron in Dallas, east of the Buckner Children and Family Services facility and south of Big Town shopping center.
___bluebull Powell to chair health council. Boone Powell Jr., chief executive officer of Baylor Health Care System, has been named chairman of the Health Industry Council's Dallas/Fort Worth region, a non-profit corporation that serves as a catalyst for growth and development of the health-care industry.
___bluebull HBU gets grants and gifts. A number of notable donations have been reported by Houston Baptist University this spring. The university received a $200,000 grant from the Andersen Foundation, as well as a $125,000 pledge toward the Legacy of Excellence campaign from the Don and Colletta McMillian Foundation. Other gifts include $115,000 from the Dolores Welder Mitchell Charitable Annuity Trust, $20,000 from the Marian and Speros Martel Foundation and gifts to endowed funds named in honor of June Carol and Robert Anderson, J. Platt Turner, and Glen Cain.
___bluebull Scholarships announced at Hardin-Simmons. Two new endowed scholarships have been announced by Hardin-Simmons University President Lanny Hall. The Richard and Jo Anne Eden Endowed Music Scholarship was given by Dr. and Mrs. Robert Gilbreth of Wills Point to honor the Edens. The Rufus and Edna Hyde Endowed Physical Therapy Scholarship also was established by the Gilbreths in honor of his aunt and uncle. Hyde was a pioneer in treating and preventing athletic injuries.
