Breckenridge Village dedicates chapel
___TYLER––A 300-seat chapel built in memory of the late Robert Rogers was dedicated April 7 as part of an open house at Breckenridge Village, a residential community for adults with mild to moderate mental disabilities.
___Breckenridge Village is owned and operated by Baptist Child and Family Services of San Antonio, an agency of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___Financed with a $600,000 grant received from the Robert Rogers Foundation in 1999, Rogers Chapel is the center of a new one-story, 8,200-square-foot multi-purpose building that includes a fitness center, health facility, two vocational classrooms, a conference room and a full kitchen.
___Rogers Chapel will be used by residents each morning for daily devotions and will be available to the Tyler community for weddings and events.
___Paul Powell, executive director of the Rogers Foundation, was on hand to participate in the chapel dedication and to unveil a portrait of Rogers.
___Kevin Dinnin, president of Baptist Child and Family Services, expressed thanks on behalf of the Texas Baptist family.
___"Bob cared about people, cared very much about his community and wanted to make it a better place," Powell said.
___Dwight Evans, administrator of Breckenridge Village, spoke of the partnerships that made this project a reality and recognized Bill Pigott, project coordinator with Texas Baptist Men Retiree Builders.
___More than 40 Texas Baptist Retiree Builders and their spouses provided labor for the project saving nearly half the cost.
