Columbine resonates with youth a year after tragedy

___WASHINGTON (RNS)--This week, the nation marks the first anniversary of the April 20 tragedy at Columbine High School. In the coming weeks and months, crowds are expected to gather on Washington's National Mall for events triggered by the Columbine violence, in which 12 students and one teacher were killed by two other students who committed suicide. Youth ministries across the nation have worked harder to build relationships between youth and adults and to reduce isolation that sometimes leads to student violence, their leaders say.

___JUAREZ, Mexico--Every Sunday, members of the growing congregation in Juarez, Mexico, bring cinder blocks to help construct an education building. Across town, members of God Is With Us Baptist Church are fasting for 21 days as they pray for God to help them remodel their building so they can accommodate their burgeoning ministry.
___Such spiritual fervor in the face of overwhelming need confronted about 25 members of First Baptist Church in Midland who conducted a recent prayer walk in Juarez.

Wade and others from BGCT meet with SBC leadership in Fort Worth

___FORT WORTH--Key leaders of the Southern Baptist Convention and Baptist General Convention of Texas met April 6 on the campus of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. But, according to an agreement reached by all the participants, they're saying very little about their discussions.
___The Fort Worth meeting apparently was prompted by SBC leaders, who learned Wade was scheduled to preach in the seminary's chapel service that morning.

SBC gained membership in '99 but didn't make up '98 loss
___NASHVILLE, Tenn.--Membership in Southern Baptist churches registered a slight increase in 1999 but did not fully rebound from a 1998 drop, the first decline since 1926.
___The 1999 total of 15.85 million members is an increase of 122,400 or 0.78 percent over 1998, but it still falls short of the 1997 total of 15.89 million. The 1997 total was the highest on record and the capt to a 71-year string of growth.
