Larry Wheeler and Donna Seaton have been named faculty and staff members of the year at Hardin-Simmons University.
___Wheeler is assistant professor of theater and university theater technical director. Seaton is executive secretary to President Lanny Hall.
Retiring
___ Darrell Baergen will retire after five years as head of the department of communication at Hardin-Simmons University, effective at the end of the spring semester. He taught speech and drama at HSU from 1963 to 1966 and later was chairman of the department of communication at Southwestern Seminary. He and his wife, Judy, will reside in Abilene.
Ordained
___ Wayland Drennan and Randy Gartman as deacons at Robert Lee Church in Robert Lee.
Anniversaries
___ Fiftieth for Avenue D Church in Snyder, April 30. Speakers will include former pastors Calvin Brown and Jack Riley; Darold Baldwin, director of missions for Mitchel-Scurry Association; and former interim pastor John Shugart. Lunch will be served, followed by an afternoon service. Charles Day is pastor.
___ Twenty-fifth for Templo Bautista of South Houston. The church will mark the event with a service and reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 6. Ananias P. Gonzales is pastor. More information is available at (713) 947-2374.
___ Fiftieth for First Church in Grangerland, April 29-30. The celebration also will honor retiring Pastor Charles Fannin, who has served the church 30 years. Saturday will feature a reception for the Fannins at 6 p.m., followed at 6:30 p.m. by music from former and present members. Lunch will be served Sunday. Speakers will inclue Richard Hardy, Gary Davis, David Lindow, David Warren and Danny Wendt.
___ One hundred twenty-fifth for Val Verde Church in the Val Verde community near Holland, April 30. Tom Shelton, pastor of First Church in Weatherford, will speak. He is the great-grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Whittington, one of the four couples who began the church. Former Pastors Frank Denton and Russell Pogue also will speak. Raymond Tharp is pastor.
