Bill would protect faith in workplace
___WASHINGTON (ABP)--Seeking to protect workers from having to choose between their job and observing their faith, a bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced the Workplace Religious Freedom Act April 11.
___Reps. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., and Asa Hutchinson, R-Ark., held a joint press conference with religious leaders to show the broad backing of the bill.

Texas churches with increased baptisms had FAITH, worked a plan

___In 1998, First Baptist Church in Maud baptized three converts to Christianity. But in 1999, the church baptized 77.
___The difference, according to Pastor Tim Brown, is faith.
___Not just faith in God, but putting that faith to work through an evangelistic Sunday School outreach program called FAITH. The program is promoted by LifeWay Christian Resources and has led to increased baptisms in participating churches nationwide.

___Charles Wade affirmed his Southern Baptist heritage while expressing concerns about the national convention during a discussion meeting with directors of associational missions.
___Wade met for more than three hours April 19 with 69 of the 72 directors of associational missions who had requested the meeting with the new executive director of the Baptist General Convention.
___"I am a Southern Baptist," he said. "I intend to be a Southern Baptist. The BGCT intends to cooperate with the SBC. We will continue to work with them any way we can."

Suit against children's home could have national impact

___LOUISVILLE, Ky. (ABP)--In a far-reaching dispute over the use of tax dollars for religious social ministries, two civil-liberties groups have filed a lawsuit against a Baptist children's home for employment discrimination and against the state of Kentucky for funding the facility.
___The American Civil Liberties Union and Americans United for Separation of Church and State filed the suit in federal district court April 17 on behalf of a lesbian fired by Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children.
