Nine Texas teens honored by WMU

___Woman's Missionary Union
___BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Laura Borrego of LaPorte is among Acteens from across the nation tapped by Woman's Missionary Union to serve on the 2000 National Acteens Panel.
___Another eight Texas teens were named WMU Top Teens, representing nearly half the nationwide group this year.
___Acteens is the missions organization sponsored by Woman's Missionary Union for girls in grades seven through 12.

___Borrego, a member of First Baptist Church of South Houston, will serve alongside Cassie Androes of First Baptist Church in Rogers, Ark.; Connie Cooper of First Baptist Church in Dickson, Tenn.; Rebecca Ann Damery of First Baptist Church in Rochester, Ill.; Tera Brooke Hayes of Dudley Shoals Baptist Church in Granite Falls, N.C.; and Amy Travis of First Baptist Church in Murray, Ky.
___Texans named Top Teens this year are Rachel Bell of First Baptist Church in South Houston; Megan Breed of Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler; Wittney Gene Cox of First Baptist Church in Humble; B. Chapman of First Baptist Church in Amarillo; Claire Day of First Baptist Church in Holliday; Alyssa Delyn Horne of First Baptist Church in San Antonio; Sara Johnson of First Baptist Church in Humble; and Sally Ruiz of Tallowood Baptist Church in Houston.
___"The committee had a wonderful and difficult time selecting the 2000 Acteens Panelists and Top Teens," said Becky England, youth resources editor for WMU and chair of the selection committee.
___"These girls have such devotion to missions and excitement about serving God," she added. "They are also very strong communicators and very involved in school and community as well as church. I hope they will have many opportunities to speak to WMU audiences this year, because they are the teenage face of WMU, and it's exciting."
___The panelists will be featured in the May/June 2000 issue of Accent, with the Top Teens appearing in the July/August issue. The teens also will write for Accent throughout the year. Accent is the magazine produced by WMU for Acteens.
