Ashcraft to BSM staff. Joyce Ashcraft has been named program coordinator for Texas Baptist Student Ministries, succeeding Bill Webb, who retired. Ashcraft has been area coordinator for BSM in the Greater Houston-Southeast Texas area for the past four years. She has overseen ministries with more than 200,000 students. Previously, she was campus minister at Rice University and Texas Medical Center and also served on the Baptist student ministry staffs at the University of Texas and the University of Houston. She is a native of Sanger and a graduate of East Texas State University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Dilday to receive Elder Statesman Award. Russell Dilday, professor at Baylor University's Truett Theological Seminary and former president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, will receive the Elder Statesman Award at the annual homecoming of Independence Association near Brenham June 4. The award honors people who have made significant contributions to Texas Baptist life. Charles Wade, executive director of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, will present the award. Dilday's son-in-law, Nolan Duck, pastor of First Baptist Church in Lufkin, will preach the sermon at the 11 a.m. worship service, and Southwestern Seminary professor Bruce Corley will teach the Sunday School lesson at 10 a.m.

Forest Cove honored. Forest Cove Baptist Church of Kingswood was given this year's Clifford Schmidt Award for outstanding work in discipling inmates in state prisons and jails. The award was given by the Inmate Discipler Fellowship, housed at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and co-sponsored by the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Members of the Kingswood church have equipped hundreds of volunteers who have discipled thousands of inmates.

ETBU dedicates facility. A new facility for communications services and the physical facilities department has been dedicated at East Texas Baptist University. The Charles Herrington Service Center is named in honor of the late brother of Louise Ornelas of Tyler, who donated $1 million toward the facility.

Violin scholarship established. Hardin-Simmmons University has announced creation of the Georgie Teel Endowed Music Scholarship to benefit students studying violin. Teel, an Abilene resident, established the scholarship to honor E.L. Hohman, her uncle. Teel and her husband, James, are Hardin-Simmons graduates and retired Southern Baptist missionaries.
