___ Howard Payne gets $1.8 million. Howard Payne University has received a gift and pledge totaling more than $1.8 million from the Scarborough-Linebery Foundation of Midland. The gift will provide partial funding for a new central power plant and total funding for an Old Main tower. The tower will incorporate stone from Old Main, the original building on campus that was destroyed by fire in 1984. The Scarborough-Linebery Foundation was established by Tom and Evelyn Linebery, longtime West Texas ranchers.
___ Potts scholarship given to ETBU. Don and Jeanne Potts have been honored by establishment of a ministerial scholarship in their names at East Texas Baptist University. ___ ETBU endowment surpasses $50 million. East Texas Baptist University administrators have reached their goal of building the university's endowment to $50 million by 2000. At the beginning of the year, the endowment totaled more than $51 million, reported Jay Orr, vice president for institutional advancement.

___ Correction: A story in last week's Standard incorrectly identified the Texas church that was the subject of a segment of the ABC news program "20/20." First Baptist Church of Allen is the church that has been criticized by the Jewish community for leading a Jewish boy to profess faith in Jesus Christ. Although the pastor and youth pastor of the Allen church were featured on the "20/20" segment, the church was not identified. Instead, the program shot scenes at First Baptist Church of Sunnyvale and interviewed youth there.
