___bluebull HBTS offers language program. Hispanic Baptist Theological School is offering its four-week Spanish Language Institute July 3-29. The first three weeks are spent on campus and around San Antonio. Emphasis is on learning "coritos," or Scripture passages and other useful tools of ministry.
___The final week features a missions experience to the coastal city of Tampico, Mexico, where the group will work with local Baptist churches in the inner city and have an opportunity to practice their Spanish. Tuition is free to Texas Baptists and $300 for others. Housing ranges from $44 to $100 per week. The Tampico trip costs $155. ___bluebull Nominating committee to meet. The Committee to Nominate Executive Board Members for the Baptist General Convention of Texas will meet Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. in the Baptist Building in Dallas. Robert Prince, pastor of First Baptist Church of Vernon, is chairman.
___bluebull Chaplains honor Cullum. Robert F. Cullum, Baptist chaplain at the San Antonio State Hospital for 30 years, has received the Anton Boisen Professional Service Award from the Association of Professional Chaplains. Cullum was lauded for dedicating "all his professional life to the improvement of services and spiritual resources for persons who are mentally ill."
___bluebull Buckner promotes Garza. Buckner Baptist Benevolences has appointed Felipe Garza as regional director for Buckner Children and Family Services of Central Texas. He oversees Buckner's residential and community programs in North Texas, including the Buckner Children's Home in Dallas, Buckner Community Enrichment Center and four community service centers in Dallas and Broadway Baptist Center in Fort Worth, plus Buckner Children's Ranch and Camp near Marble Falls. He has been a Buckner administrator since 1982.
___bluebull Newburys invest in HPU. Don and Brenda Newbury have given $50,000 to Howard Payne University in Brownwood. He will retire May 31 as chancellor of the Texas Baptist school. He was its president from 1986 through 1997. Since enrolling as a freshman at Howard Payne in 1956, he has spent 30 years there as a student, instructor, board member and president. He was the school's first alumnus to return as president.
