Noted HBU professor dies ___Alvin Collins, noted Houston Baptist University professor, died June 4 at age 78. ___Collins was pastor of churches in Indiana, Kentucky and Mississippi before coming to the university as a member of its original faculty in 1963. ___He served the school as professor and chairperson of the Christianity and philosophy department, retiring in 1991 but continuing as an adjunct professor there occasionally and at Houston Graduate School of Theology. ___In 1972 and 1981, he received the outstanding teacher award at the school and later was named distinguished professor. ___He was an active member of Willow Meadows Baptist Church in Houston and was active in Union Association. ___He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, Gordon and Robert; and brothers, Charles and Dwane.
