Three with ties to Texas Baptist schools
inducted into Basketball Hall of Fame

___KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--Three coaches with ties to Texas Baptist universities were inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tenn., June 10.
___Fran Garmon, Dean Weese and Kim Mulkey-Robertson were among 24 people to be included in the hall's second class of inductees.

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. She was included in the hall of fame, however, for her coaching prowess. She was a head coach at the collegiate level from 1962 to 1993, with stints at Temple Junior College, Delta State University and Texas Christian University. In addition to coaching Temple to its first-ever National Junior College Athletic Association women's basketball championship in 1975, she also was head coach for U.S. teams at the 1979 World University Games and the 1983 Pan American Games, directing the American squad to gold medals in both events.
___In recognition of her induction into the women's basketball hall of fame, UMHB recently honored Garmon by retiring her number, 20. The school had a replica of the jersey Garmon wore in 1961 made for the event.
___During the ceremony, Garmon spoke of her faith and how it had played a large part in her success. She especially is proud of her church, Willow Grove Baptist Church in Moody, which she calls "the miracle church," because it nearly closed a few years ago but is now thriving.
___Weese was head coach at Wayland Baptist University for six seasons, leading the Flying Queens to four National Women's Invitational Tournament championships while notching a record of 193-30 at the school. Weese's 42-year coaching career included the high school, collegiate and professional levels as well as international play, while he mounted a record of 1,207-197. Weese coached high school teams in Higgins, Spearman and Levelland, winning 10 state titles.
___Mulkey-Robertson was named head coach at Baylor University April 4, coming after 20 years at Louisiana Tech as either a player or assistant coach.
___During her time there, she was associated with 11 Final Four squads and three national championship teams. She either played or coached in the national championship game six times.
