Texas Baptist choir tours Germany,
sings at World's Fair three days
___BELTON--Thirty-nine members of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Concert Choir recently returned from an 11-day tour of northern and central Germany.
___At the invitation of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, the students participated in a partnership missions effort with the Baptist churches of Germany. The UMHB students performed several concerts in Germany, including three days of concerts at the World's Fair in Hanover.
___Steven Brubaker, an International Mission Board missionary in Germany, assistedwith scheduling.
___At the World's Fair, EXPO 2000, the Texas students sang at the Pavillion of Hope, an international pavilion that presented the gospel through an animated video titled "The Choice." The Pavilion of Hope was sponsored by the YMCA, Amnesty International and World Vision.
___"Though these three days took a lot of work, it was such a joy to share our faith with the people who came to the pavilion, and they were very appreciative of our music and spirit," said Director David Guess.
___"This trip showed me that no matter what language you speak, music can be a language we all can understand and use as a tool to communicate God's love to other people," said Alan Jamandre, junior nursing major from Spring.
___"We went to Germany to be an encouragement to the Christians there," said senior music education major Matthew Crosby. "But they are the ones who encouraged us. Instead of being spiritually drained, I don't know that I have ever been so full. I cannot express how much this trip has changed me. I just hope I can live the changes each day."
___Steven Gunter, a junior music performance major from Athens, said the trip also changed his outlook.
___"As Americans, we often put ourselves on a much higher pedestal than we ought," he said. "We assume that our country is the greatest, our God is the best and our way is correct. My ideas have now changed. How incredible it was to see and be a part of what God has been and is doing on the opposite side of our world."
