UMHB gets additional $50,000. The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor has received an additional $50,000 grant from the Grogan Lord Foundation, based in Georgetown, for the Ida Myrtle Roberts Manning Tomorrow's Leaders Scholarship. Sharon Lord Caskey of Georgetown established this scholarship in 1996 in memory of her grandmother. The gift brings the total endowment of the scholarship to $300,000.

Baylor names distinguished professors. Baylor University has named two distinguished professors for the coming academic year. David Lyle Jeffrey, professor of English emeritus at the University of Ottawa, will be distinguished professor of literature and humanities. Robert Roberts, professor of philosophy and psychological studies at Wheaton College, will be distinguished professor of ethics. The appointments are part of a plan to add 20 high-profile scholars to the faculty over a seven-year period.

Chew named Hispanic dean. Jack Chew has been named dean of academic affairs at Hispanic Baptist Theological School in San Antonio. He has been pastor of Millican Memorial Baptist Church in Sierra Blanca and has taught on the faculty of Sul Ross State University. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and the University of Texas.

Elizondo also named dean. Javier Elizondo has been named dean of student services at Hispanic Baptist Theological School in San Antonio. He succeeds Silvester Ayala, who will retire as dean of student affairs July 31. Elizondo has been a pastor in Texas and Tennessee, a design editor with LifeWay Christian Resources and a missionary with the North American Mission Board. He is a graduate of Texas Tech University, Southwestern Seminary and Baylor University.
