Hispanic Fellowship launches website
___ORLANDO, Fla. (BP)--Hispanic Baptists launched an Internet site (www.cnihbs.com) June 11 during the 13th annual assembly of the National Fellowship of Hispanic Baptist Churches.
___When Southern Baptists at the 1996 annual meeting in New Orleans voted for a resolution to boycott the Walt Disney Co., Hispanic Baptists, with large numbers of residents in Florida and California where Disney parks are located, didn't understand the issues, said Pedro Pared, president of the fellowship's communications committee.
___A new communication network facilitated by the Hispanic website will prevent any such confusion in the future, said Pared, pastor of Sweetwater Baptist Church in Miami and part owner of InterWebCall, a communications company.
___Another consideration is unity, said Pared, who believes Hispanics need to network to be more global in their outreach.
___Participants in the fellowship voted to allow officers to set up an electronic voting system to poll members' opinions on issues of current interest.
___"If the government makes a decision that impacts all of our churches, we need to have an emergency way to get hold of all of our churches," said Julio Fuentes, the fellowship's executive director and minister of education at Northside Baptist Church in Hialeah, Fla.
___Officers elected are President Herberto Becerra, pastor of First Hispanic Baptist Church in Plantation, Fla.; Vice President Moises Rodriguez, pastor of First Mexican Baptist Church in Fort Worth; Second Vice President Cristobal Donas, pastor of White Grove Baptist Church in San Jose, Calif.; Secretary Eloy Rodriguez, pastor of Parkway Spanish Mission in Orlando; Treasurer Segundo Mir, pastor of Hispanic Baptist Church in Laurel, Md.
