Baptists receive six criminal justice ministry awards
___HOUSTON--Texas Baptists received six of 24 awards presented during the Fifth Annual Governor's Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Awards ceremony.
___Kenneth Euton, a volunteer chaplain from Refugio, received the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Chaplaincy Department Award; Emmett Solomon, former criminal justice chief of chaplains now serving as a field consultant with the Baptist General Convention of Texas church ministries department, received the Restorative Justice award.
___Lucy Smith, a member of North Pointe Baptist Church in Hurst, received the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Religious Service Award. Wayne McNeill of Centerville was honored for the greatest number of hours served by a volunteer.
___Cheryl Baird, a member of Miller Heights Baptist Church in Belton, received the Paul and Silas Award from the sheriff's association for her work at Bell County Jail.
___Four Vernon Baptist churches--First, Second, Calvary and New Hope--were among congregations that make up the Adopt-A-Group program at Victory Field Correctional Academy, which were honored with the Group Faithfulness Award from the Texas Youth Commission.
