___bluebull Stanley says he was misquoted. A North Carolina newspaper reporter "twisted and distorted" Charles Stanley's position on women serving as pastors, the Atlanta pastor told Baptist Press July 7. A story published in the June 28 issue of the Charlotte Observer quoted the former SBC president as saying he could not support a ban on female pastors because he had become a Christian under the preaching of a female evangelist. Such a position would put him at odds with the SBC, which recently adopted a new faith statement that includes a prohibition on women serving as pastors. Stanley acknowledged he told the reporter, "There are some godly women out there. ... I would never say that a woman could not preach." However, he said there is a difference between being a pastor and a preacher.
