___GLORIETA, N.M.--Parents and grandparents should ask whether they are leaving a legacy of faith for their families or building monuments to themselves, Albert Reyes told worshippers during the Texas Baptist Family Reunion at Glorieta.
___Christians should seek to leave a legacy of proclamation to all the peoples of the world, said Reyes, president of Hispanic Baptist Theological School in San Antonio. The missionary impulse originates with God and should characterize God's children, he added.
___"It's deep in the heart of God. That ought to be in the DNA of our spirituality."
___Those who have experienced the life-transforming power of God should leave a legacy that testifies to the powerful hand of God and that demonstrates a profound reverence for God, he said.
___"All our life is transformed if we know we live in the presence of Almighty God," Reyes said. That includes family relationships, stewardship, conversation and every aspect of life, he added.
___"You have the rest of your life--beginning today--to prepare to become a memory," Reyes said.
___In another message, Reyes urged Christians to choose to love God, honor God's word and obey God's commands for the sake of their families. Taking his text from the 30th chapter of Deuteronomy, he pointed to the choice Moses set before the families of Israel--to choose life and blessing or death and destruction.
___"It is a clear choice. It's not confusing," he said. "It is a simple choice. It's not complex. And it's a relational choice. It's not procedural."
___The choices parents make have long-lasting consequences in the lives of their children and grandchildren, Reyes added. "Our choices determine the spiritual trajectory for our children and for the generations to come."
___Telling the story of the conversion of the Philippian jailer recorded in the 16th chapter of the book of Acts, Reyes emphasized the way an entire household was transformed when one member made a life-changing commitment to Jesus Christ.
___"Transformation redefines our relationships," he said.
