TOGETHER:
Send the light across Texas with Mary Hill Davis

___Who helps your church keep a mission vision at its heart? At First Baptist Church of Arlington, the Woman's Missionary Union people were great allies to me in helping all our churchmembers see that the work of God was always more than what we could see out our front door.
___They were the ones who helped me present to our deacons the need for a women's shelter which provided refuge and help in building a new life for abused women and their

children.
___They were the ones who helped lead the way in mission trips, backyard Bible studies and apartment ministries and prepared the ground so that Mission Arlington could be started on a sure foundation.
___WMU of Texas is having its Texas Leadership Conference this week in Waco, where I will speak on Friday evening. I am looking forward to sharing with these mission leaders the vision God is laying on my heart and soul. Every time I am around Joy Fenner and her leadership team, I am humbled by their dedication and unselfish hard work helping Texas Baptist women live and speak the gospel in their world.
___Right now, WMU is gearing up to help churches pray for the Texas mission field. The Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas missions supports mission ministries all over our state. The goal is $5.6 million. The theme this year is "In Joy, Share the Light."
___I encourage pastors, WMU leaders and teachers to take time to become familiar with the Texas mission story so you can help church members discover their part in helping us put our arms around this great state and hug people up close to God.
___If your church does not have an active WMU, why not start one? WMU has mission education opportunities for preschoolers, children, youth, as well as for women.
___If you want information regarding the Mary Hill Davis Offering or help in getting a WMU ministry started in your church, write or call the WMU offices at 333 N. Washington, Dallas 75246; (214) 828/5100. They will help.
___One of the great ministries the Mary Hill Davis Offering supports is church starting. The Church Starting Center for Texas Baptists is led by E.B. Brooks. He leads a team of incredibly passionate and creative consultants who work with churches and associations across Texas to help start new churches. Over the past four and a half years, Texas Baptist churches have started 1,293 new churches. We hope to start 140 more before the end of our five-year Texas 2000 effort.
___Sept. 17 has been named "New Church Launch Day." We commit ourselves to "Light Up Texas" with new churches. Plans call for our churches to launch 100 new congregations on that one Sunday.
___How about starting a new church? I know E.B. Brooks and his staff can help.
___If you start now, you could have a part in getting a new church on its way before the end of the year.
___Here is what is at stake. When you start a new church, there will be people next year who will know the meaning of Easter and Christmas for the first time.
___Think what a difference that makes in a home, in a business, in a community--and most of all, in a life.
___We are loved.
