Texas IMB missionaries honored upon retirement
___ RICHMOND, Va.--A number of Texans were among International Mission Board missionaries honored recently at the emeritus recognition service, marking their retirement.
___ Claylan and Patricia Coursey were appointed as missionaries to East Africa in October 1968. Since 1974 he has served as a general evangelist, as an adjunct professor of the Kenya Baptist Theological College and as a church planting resource person for eastern and southern Africa. Prior to missionary service, he was pastor of Round Prairie Baptist Church in Kerens, Faith Baptist Church in Wellington and Becton Baptist Church near Plainview. They will retire Oct. 1.
___ Clifford and Peggy Dane were appointed missionaries to the Caribbean Basin in April 1972. The Danes have worked in Brazil and Belize. He was a professor at North Brazil Baptist Theological Seminary and later served as theological education coordinator for the country of Belize. Prior to their missionary experience, he was a hospital orderly and she a nurse's aide in Plainview and Dalhart, and he also served as a schoolteacher in Cotton Center. They will retire Aug. 1.
___ Donald and Patricia Doyle served as missionaries in Costa Rica following their appointments in 1964. He served as a general evangelist and director of the Bible institue there until their resignation in 1977. From 1977 to 1979, he was associate pastor of First Baptist Church in Dickinson. In September 1979, they were re-appointed and served in Guatamala until they were reassigned to Mexico in 1997. They retired April 1.
___ Dub and Sallie Fite were appointed missionaries to Brazil in 1950. Stationed in Corrente, he was a teacher and director of school farms at the Baptist Industrial Institute until 1958. He also served as director of the Baptist agricultural school he helped develop. His wife was the treasurer-secretary of the institution. The school closed in 1999, and the Fites returned for a stateside assignment in January. The Fites consider Crosbyton their hometown. The couple will retire Sept. 30.
___ Marilois Kirksey was appointed as a missionary to Brazil in 1963. She was director of the Baptist Community Center in Rio de Janerio until December 1987 and served as director of the social ministries department of the Brazilian Baptist Home Mission Board from 1988 to 1997. She served as the Richmond associate for eastern South America through December 1999. Prior to her foreign missionary experience, she served as director of weekday activities at Ervay Baptist Center in Dallas as a missionary of the Home Mission Board. She retired April 1.
___ Donald and Diane Moore were appointed as missionaries to eastern Africa in 1984. Both of them were employed by Texas school districts prior to missionary service. In Johannesburg, South Africa, he served as the mission business manager, while she managed the guest house. They later coordinated missionary kid dorm arrangements in Kenya. They will retire Nov. 1.
___ Gale and Verna Sadler have served in eastern Africa since 1987. For the first two years of their appointment, he was the bookstore and literature distribution center manager in Tanzania, and she was the secretary for the enterprise. She also served as the travel consultant for the Baptist mission of that country. Since 1990, he has been finance administrator/treasurer of the Baptist mission of Tanzania. They consider Dimmitt their hometown. They will retire Dec. 1.
___ Haskell and Elaine Wilson served in South Africa as church developers from 1987 until their retirement in April. Prior to serving in Africa, he had been associate pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church in San Angelo and Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Amarillo. He also was pastor of Hobart Baptist Church in Pampa and Fairlanes Baptist Church in Borger.
