Baylor names new vice president. David Brooks, a Baylor University graduate and chairman/CEO of First Bank Group in McKinney, has been named vice president for finance and administration at Baylor University. He succeeds Harold Cunningham, who will become vice president for special projects at the university. Brooks currently serves as president of the McKinney Independent School District trustees and is a member of the board of directors for the Independent Bankers Association of Texas, the Baylor Foundation board of directors and the board of advisers for Truett Theological Seminary at Baylor. He is a member and lay director of finance and education at Crosspoint Church, a Baptist General Convention of Texas-funded mission of First Baptist Church of McKinney.

Sandi Patti in concert at ETBU. East Texas Baptist University in Marshall will present Sandi Patti in concert Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. Tickets for the concert are $12 and are available at area Christian book stores.

Seniors converge on ETBU. Nearly 2,500 people attended East Texas Baptist University's 11th annual Senior Adult Conference this summer, the highest attendance ever. The event included musical performances by Ivan Parker, Sue Dodge and Aaron Wilburn, as well as preaching by Paul Powell, Bible teaching by Bob Utley and music leadership by Bill Cox and Catherine Cox.

York scholarship begun at UMHB. Gertrude York of Belton has established a presidential endowed scholarship at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in honor of Gertrude Pudig York. York moved to Belton and Mary Hardin-Baylor in 1953 with her husband, C.L. York, who served as professor of biology and department chair until his retirement in 1973. Mrs. York is a native of Waco and graduate of Baylor and Emory universities. She served as the school librarian at Belton High School from 1954 until her retirement in 1975.

Walking across Egypt. Ten Texas Baptists conducted a prayerwalk in Egypt this summer, asking God to work in two cities that have been virtually untouched by the Christian gospel. Joe Bruce, projects director of Texas Partnerships with the Baptist General Convention of Texas, accompanied a discovery team of nine students from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary on the trip to Egypt's Sinai peninsula. Texas Partnerships is encouraging Baptists throughout the state to participate in a prayer partnership for the unreached Bedouin people of Egypt.

HSU dedicates music building. The Lee Hemphill Music Building at Hardin-Simmons University was dedicated June 30, marking completion of one of the first phases of the "Leadership for Tomorrow" campaign. President Lanny Hall praised Hemphill, vice president emeritus and a member of the School of Music Foundation, for his longtime support of the university and for the gift making possible the new building between Caldwell Music Hall and Woodward-Dellis Recital Hall on Cedar Street. The new two-story building contains 15,300 square feet of space and was built at a cost of $2.5 million. It will serve as the centerpiece for the School of Music complex, will alleviate overcrowding and provide for a new choral music suite, administrative facilities, a music library and orchestral suite.
