Former National Football League quarterback Sammy Baugh will be one of four athletes to be inducted into the Hardin-Simmons University athletic hall of fame Oct. 20 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Abilene. Others to be inducted are Riley Cross, Jeff Goodin and Phillip Tippen.

Lackland Baptist Church in San Antonio will celebrate its 40th anniversary Aug. 26-27. A welcome and fellowship luncheon will be held at noon Saturday. A dinner and program will follow at 6 p.m. A breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. Sunday. A lunch and program will follow the morning service. Jack Walker, 82, Dec. 20 in Amarillo. He and his wife, Sarah, were appointed as medical missionaries to Nigeria from 1951 to 1956. They were then transferred to Tanzania from 1956 to 1965, where they helped establish a hospital. After retiring due to Mrs. Walker's health problems, Walker became chief of staff at High Plains Baptist Hospital in Amarillo from 1975 to 1976 and again from 1982 to 1983. He also was elected to the board of trustees of Buckner Baptist Benevolences in 1968 and served until he was named trustee emeritus in 1999. He was a deacon of First Church in Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his wife. He is survived by his wife, Mittie; daughter, Amy Walker; brother, George; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Gene McCombs, July 29 in Memphis, Tenn. He was a pastor of several Texas churches including First Church in Leuders, Pioneer Drive Church in Abilene, First Church in Duncanville and Second Church in Corpus Christi before going to Mid America Baptist Seminary to teach evangelism and raise funds. He worked as an evangelist for the past eight years. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter, Paula; son, Terrell; two granddaughters; one brother, Red; two sisters, Mildred Penton and LaWanda McCombs.

First Church in Cisco honored Pastor Chris Craig with a reception and money tree Aug. 6 after the completion of his doctoral studies at Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, Mo.

First Church in Cuero will hold a reunion and homecoming Aug. 27. The day will celebrate a revival that took place in 1925 in which 51 people accepted Christ as Savior. Some of those are still active in the church. Bob Hairston will be the guest speaker. A history and recognition service will be held following a noon luncheon. Glenn Robertson is pastor.
