Church gets Job Corps grant
___LUBBOCK--First Baptist Church of Lubbock has received a $46,200 grant from the Meadows Foundation for use in the congregation's Christian Women's Job Corps ministry.
___Christian Women's Job Corps is a program that teaches job and life skills to low-income women.
___The money will be used to help pay the salary of a new Job Corps assistant director and to provide housing assistance for program participants, said Shirley Madden, a grant writer for the Texas Baptist Missions Foundation of the Baptist General Convention of Texas.
___"Christian Women's Job Corps is meeting a very pressing need in the lives of single moms in our community," said D.L. Lowrie, pastor of First Baptist Church. "It is ministering to women who are struggling to get their lives together."
