___JERUSALEM (RNS)--The gold-plated roof of Jerusalem's Dome of the Rock blazes under the summer sun as Muslim worshippers gather for noontime prayer on a broad esplanade around the Islamic shrine, perched on a hill that dominates the skyline above Jerusalem's Old City.
___A few dozen feet below the eighth century mosque compound, pious Jews touch and kiss the giant, bleached stones of the Western Wall, the retaining wall of the biblical-era temple, which stood two millennia ago on the site of the Dome and its companion Al Aksa Mosque.
___The dispute over these 35 acres of sacred rock stands at the heart of the political debate that stalled recent peace talks between Israelis and Palestinians at Camp David.

Texas volunteers complete five-year partnership with Australian Baptists
___Texas Baptist churches sent 155 people to work in 30 Australia congregations July 12-25, said Don Sewell, director of Texas Partnerships for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The trip ended the "formal" Texas-Australia partnership that began in 1985.
___The volunteers on this year's trip reported more than 180 professions of faith and 128 recommitments to Christ, Sewell said. Those figures are conservative, he said, because they reflect reports from only 21 of the 30 teams.

Pampa church unhappy with BGCT
___PAMPA--First Baptist Church of Pampa, one of the top 100 churches in giving to the Baptist General Convention of Texas Cooperative Program, has adjusted its funding in protest of the BGCT's failure to work more "harmoniously" with the Southern Baptist Convention.
___The church has threatened to discontinue any undesignated giving to the BGCT if the state convention does not take steps this fall to more fully affirm the theology and direction of the SBC, according to Pastor Randy White.
