Around the state
___bluebull The North American Mission Board has appointed two couples with Texas ties to serve as national missionaries. Norman and Lori Flowers will serve in campus evangelism in North Texas. He will work with churches in 11 counties and 10 associations to train them to evangelize school campuses. A native of Iowa Park, he has served for more than 22 years as minister of youth and music in churches in Texas and Oklahoma.
FIRST CHURCH OF ALBA held a groundbreaking service for a new sanctuary July 23. She is a native of Neches. They have three children, Sheri, Kaci and Nathan. Benjamin and Ruth Kennedy of Georgia will serve as church planting interns near Harrisburg, Pa. He most recently served as pastor of Silver Creek Church in Azle. They have two children, Hannah and Joshua.

___Deaths
___bluebull Lela McVoy, 93, Aug. 9 in San Antonio. She was a longtime member of Dellview Church in San Antonio and was well-known throughout the area for her work in missions and Woman's Missionary Union. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, who was pastor of Texas churches for more than 50 years.
___bluebull Robert Tatum, 82, July 10 in Huntsville. Tatum was pastor of many churches, including First Church in Moore and First Church in Crystal City. He also served on the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. At the time of his illness, he was the volunteer minister at Thee Hospice in Huntsville. He was a member of University Heights Church in Huntsville. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mae; daughter, Betty Welborn; son, Robert Jr.; sister, Vera Revit; brothers, Asa and Edison; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.
