Baptist Briefs
___bluebull Christianity Today addresses BF&M. An editorial in the Aug. 7 issue of Christianity Today applauded recent revisions in the Southern Baptist Convention's Baptist Faith & Message statement but said the changes may have been made "at the cost of honest diversity." The editorial explained: "We applaud most of the changes as they will discourage the liberal drift experienced by other large denominations. At the same time, we wonder if the SBC has gone too far, both in seeming to eliminate discussion of some beliefs and alienating opponents."
___bluebull Clarification: A brief in the Sept. 4 Standard reported on launch of a new minister's benefit program by the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship and response from the Southern Baptist Convention's Annuity Board. Some comparisons between the CBF option and the Annuity Board option were suggested by Annuity Board officials. An additional comparison not included in that brief is that participants in Annuity Board retirement programs receive protection benefits at no additional cost. These include a $500 per month disability benefit and up to a $100,000 survivor benefit. In the CBF plan, 20 percent of the participants' contributions will be used to purchase life and disability benefits.
