BULLETINS: A Texas Baptist committee studying theological education has recommended that the Baptist General Convention of Texas dramatically change the way it funds Southern Baptist Convention and BGCT seminaries. And a plan to flatten the Baptist General Convention of Texas' bureaucracy and push its ministries closer to the churches received the first round of approval Sept. 8.

STUDENTS FROM Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary joined a small group of other Baptist students this summer to study at an Arabic university in North Africa. Here, they look out over an oasis in the Saharan Desert during a break in their academic pursuits. Grandparents' Day is Sunday, Sept. 10.
The national event was established by President Jimmy Carter, to be held annually the first Sunday after Labor Day. The Baptist Standard is publishing grandparenting stories by three of the nation's best storytellers, who happen to be grandparents: Art Linkletter, Thelma Wells and Zig Ziglar.

Givers get back when missionary aid needed

___SEAGRAVES--Sometimes a giver becomes a receiver.
___First Baptist Church of Seagraves has a history of supporting the Mary Hill Davis Offering for Texas missions. Now other Texas Baptists are helping the church with mission work of its own through the same offering.
___Rick Smith, pastor of First Baptist, said one woman in the church was "just floored" and "walked away in disbelief" when he told her the offering was helping the church start a Hispanic congregation in town. Full Story

HBU study committee begins work

___The special committee appointed to study the relationship between Houston Baptist University and the Baptist General Convention of Texas met Sept. 6 in Dallas to begin the process of resolving the dispute between the state convention and the university.
