Committees propose new uses for funds sent to eight SBC agencies

___DALLAS--The movement to dramatically reduce the amount of money flowing from Texas to the Southern Baptist Convention gained steam when a key committee went a step beyond reducing seminary funding and also voted to completely defund the SBC Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission and nearly defund the SBC Executive Committee.
___The Administrative Committee of the Baptist General Convention of Texas unanimously approved the budget changes for calendar year 2001 during a Sept. 13 meeting in Dallas. Full Story
Round Rock children's home celebrates 50 years of love

___ROUND ROCK--Fifty years ago, businesses in Round Rock closed their doors for the afternoon and the entire town gathered for what the local newspaper called "one of the most important events in the entire 100-year history of Round Rock."
___That event was the Sept. 5, 1950, dedication of Texas Baptist Children's Home, which opened its doors that year to help children and families in need.

___FORT WORTH (BP)--It's been a year since crime scene tape encircled Wedgwood Baptist Church in Fort Worth.
___Grieving families have buried their dead, and many of the physically wounded have been healed. Carpets soaked with the blood of the innocent were taken away. Bullet-riddled pews were replaced, and walls were patched. And a congregation of believers continues on its journey to emotional healing.

Arizona Foundation moves closer to settlement in bankruptcy case

___PHOENIX (BP)--A disagreement over the secured versus unsecured status of Baptist Foundation of Arizona investors has been resolved, subject to court approval, according to a proposed agreement filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court Sept. 5.
___The disagreement had been "the single remaining impediment" to the bankruptcy case proceeding rapidly, according to a status report filed in July.

North American Mission Board shifts focus on social ministries
___ALPHARETTA, Ga.--The Southern Baptist Convention's North American Mission Board has cut five jobs from its social ministries and interfaith witness units in order to create five other positions involved in more direct evangelism.
___As a result of the changes, NAMB will no longer have any staff member solely devoted to immigration ministries and will be left with only one national missionary assigned to work nationwide training literacy missions workers.
