___bluebull Betsy Flowers, a resident of Fort Worth and a doctoral student at Duke University, was recently awarded the Robert G. Torbet Prize, sponsored by the American Baptist

BOYS ATTENDING RA CAMP at the North Texas Baptist Conference Center in Denton were given a special treat as members of a remote contral airplane team gave a flight demonstration. The boys were taught that God directs their lives just as a pilot directs a plane. RAs Brandon Knots and Brandon Kilpatrick inspect the plane of Butch Shelley.
Historical Society, for her essay, "Southern Baptist Evangelicals or Social Gospel Liberals?: The Woman's Missionary Union and Social Reform, 1888 to 1928." This essay was published in the June 2000 edition of the American Baptist Quarterly.

___bluebull John Allen, Sept. 3, after more than 50 years in the ministry and three years as pastor of Cottonwood Church in Glen Rose.

___bluebull Maxey Church in Sumner has assisted Brookston Church in Brookston in making needed repairs. Young adults from the Sumner church repaired molding, replaced windows and sinks, cleaned and vacuumed carpets, painted and repaired water-damaged walls and ceilings.
___bluebull Highland Park Church in Austin has named Ray Burchette pastor emeritus.
___bluebull Tabernacle Church in Elkhart will hold homecoming services Sept. 10. Willie Reagan will be the guest speaker, and the Ray Brothers will supply the special music. A lunch will be served. Dennis Morgan is pastor.
___bluebull Linda Haenisch and Marvin and Judy Lolmaugh will be commissioned as Mission Service Corps volunteers Sept. 10 at 3 p.m. at First Church in Washburn. Haenisch works with Northwest Texas Hospital as a cuddler of at-risk, premature babies. The Lolmaughs work in various capacities at the church and in the community.
___bluebull North Pointe Church in Hurst will celebrate its first anniversary and move into its new worship facility, formerly Hurst Baptist Church, Sept. 10. ___Deaths
___bluebull Charles Pierce, 68, Aug. 22 in Dallas. Ordained at First Church in O'Donnell, Pierce taught school in Stinnett and Irving and was pastor of churches in Randall and Hutchinson counties before moving to Whitewright. Pierce was pastor of Bethel Church in Whitewright and employed by the school district there for 35 years. Pierce also served on the executive board of Grayson Association and was moderator for two years. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pat; sons, Chuck, B.D. and Ted; brothers, Jones, Robert and Billy; sisters, Betty Cook, Jean Vulgamore and Mary Rogers; and four grandchildren.
___bluebull Genter Stephens, 88, Aug. 10 in New Orleans, La. Stephens, professor emeritus of church music at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, was minister of music at Forest Avenue Church in Dallas from 1939 to 1941, as well as 43 other churches during a 63-year span. Stephens also assisted in publishing a Spanish version of the Baptist Hymnal at the Spanish Baptist Publishing House in El Paso, and served on the committee for the 1956 Baptist Hymnal. He is survived by his daughters, Lydia Stephens and Jodi Harrison; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
___bluebull Edward Findley, 70, Aug. 25 in Artesia, N.M. Findley was a retired minister and evangelist serving in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Washington, Oregon and Nevada. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy, and son, Michael. Survivors include daughters, Linda Lamon, Carol Langner and Janet Barrett; sons, Thomas and Travis; brothers, James and Dale; sister, Frances Hadaway; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
