___bluebull Hispanic School takes accreditation step. Hispanic Baptist Theological School's application for candidate membership with the Accrediting Association of Bible Colleges has been accepted. The association's accrediting commission approved the application based upon its assessment of the San Antonio school's capacity to comply with standards for accreditation during the next four years, school President Albert Reyes reported. Candidate membership is the second step in the three-step accrediting process, designed to validate the quality of the school's degrees.
___bluebull State Missions Commission re-elects officers. Randy Hager, a lay member of First Baptist Church in Amarillo, was re-elected chairman of the Baptist General Convention of Texas' State Missions Commission at its summer meeting. Also re-elected were Bill Wright, pastor of First Baptist Church in Plains, vice chairman, and Winnie Brown, a lay member of Calder Baptist Church in Beaumont, secretary.
___bluebull Valley Baptist trustees approved. Five Texas Baptists have been elected to the Valley Baptist Missions/Education Center's board of trustees. Bob King, a lay member of First Baptist Church in Robstown, was chosen to fill an incomplete term, which will expire in December 2001. Four trustees were selected to three-year terms, which will expire in 2003: Eleanor Davis, a lay member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco, and Jim Hatley, a retired minister and member of First Baptist Church in Grapevine, were elected as new trustees; Miguel Checka, a lay member of First Baptist Church in Arlington, and Lisandro Ramon, pastor of Primera Iglesia Bautista in Raymondville, were re-elected. The Harlingen center's trustees were approved by the State Missions Commission at its summer meeting.
___bluebull Trustees selected for Hispanic School. Five trustees have been elected to new three-year terms on the board of Hispanic Baptist Theological School in San Antonio. They are Micaela Camacho, a lay member of Gambrell Street Baptist Church in Fort Worth; Don Guthrie, pastor of First Baptist Church in San Antonio; Michael Morgan, assistant dean at Baylor University's Truett Theological Seminary and a member of First Baptist Church in Waco; Lorenzo Pena, director of missions for El Paso Baptist Association; and David Pina, of Austin. The school's trustees were elected by the State Missions Commission.
