The organization has funds available for one $1,000 scholarship to an undergraduate student and one $500 scholarship to a graduate student. MORE THAN 400 people attended a turkey calling and deer hunting seminar sponsored by seven Baptist churches in Marshall. Churaches hosting the event included Agape Family Church, Crossroads Baptist Church, Hillcrest Baptist Church, Grange Hall Baptist Church, Friendship Baptist Church, Immanuel Baptist Church and Nesbit Baptist Church. The seminar speakers, David Fortenberry and Gene Hoyt, not only presented hunting tips, but also shared the gospel during their presentation. More than 68 churches had hunters in attendance, and 58 people registered no church preference. Of those 58 people, six made professions of faith in Jesus Christ, as did 22 others in attendance. Two more people asked for more information. The photo is of volunteers preparing to cook fish, french fries and hush puppies for the free dinner that was provided for participants. Shotguns, a deer rifle, and turkey and deer calls were among the door prizes awarded.

___ First Church in White Settlement will hold homecoming services and dedicate a state historical marker Oct. 28. The church has been serving the community since 1868, making it one of the oldest in Tarrant County. A former pastor of the church for 38 years, Paul Miller will be the guest speaker at the 12:30 p.m. ceremony. The ceremony will be followed by a luncheon. James Gatliff is pastor.
___ Green Acres Church in Tyler will hold its Autumn Festival Oct. 31 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be gaming booths and free candy. Admission is free. David Dykes is pastor.

___ Laurabeth Martin, 84, Sept. 7 in Fort Worth. She was the wife of Texas pastor John Martin for 59 years. They served Bonita Church in Bonita, East Dallas Church in Dallas, Inglewood Church in Grand Prairie and Ferguson Road Church in Dallas. They also served churches in Missouri, Kansas and Arkansas. She is survived by her husband; daughter, Connie Goodson; sons, Tommy and Montie; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
___ Alton Gatewood, 83, Oct. 1 in Garland. He was pastor of churches in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas. Prior to his retirement in 1985, he also held numerous state and associational leadership positions. He was a member of The Heights Church in Richardson. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vera; daughters, Carole Jones and Judy Moore; son, Bill; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
___ James Tipton, 97, Oct. 15 in Weatherford. Tipton was a retired Baptist pastor, serving churches in Texas and Oklahoma for more than 50 years. He also was a watchmaker and jeweler for more than a quarter of a century. He was a member of First Church in Denison. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lue Ella; son, Stanley; daughter, Wynona Elder; brother, J.D.; sisters, Lou Shults, Ruby White, Josephine Hodges and Bobbie Grizzle; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
