Retired ministers urged not to grow tired but press on

___GLORIETA, N.M.--Against the specter of terrorism and war, nearly 300 people at the Retiree Ministries Retreat in the peaceful mountains of Glorieta Conference Center re-committed their lives to fulfilling Christ's Great Commission.

conference theme, "For the Prize and High Calling, We Press On."
___One of the oldest participants was Mayola Feather, 89, widow of longtime Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary professor Othal Feather, who died last February at 97.
___Mrs. Feather drove about 600 miles to Glorieta from her home at Baptist Memorials Retirement Center in San Angelo. Asked, "Did you come alone?" she replied, "No, the Lord came with me all the way."
___Bill Pinson, executive director emeritus of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, encouraged participants not to rest on their laurels.
___"Some of you might think you've given yourself out," he said. "No, you haven't. The riches of Christ are available as you press on to continue meeting needs. He who began a good work in you will complete it."
___Evangelist BO Baker emphasized that Christ's disciples didn't turn back.
___"You mustn't turn back now," said Baker, former pastor of Plymouth Park Baptist Church in Irving. "Some dishonor God in their late years and waste a lifetime of influence and service with one foolish act."
___Joshua Grijalva, retired home missionary and former dean and professor at Hispanic Baptist Theological School, urged ministers, "Leave your door open. The Lord's not through with us yet.
___"As the physical gets worse, the spiritual gets better. No one can be called to a greater calling than what the Lord has for you."
___Evangelistic musician Dick Baker, former minister of music and brother of BO Baker, led the music, including the theme song he composed.
___Next year's meeting will be Sept. 23-27 at Glorieta.
