___ Beltway Park Church in Abilene recently was honored as the church of the year by Abilene Baptist Association. Pastor David McQueen accepted the plaque on behalf of the church. FIRST CHURCH OF KOUNTZE recently broke ground on its new sanctuary expansion. The church has seen significant growth over the last few years. The sanctuary expansion will increase the seating capacity to 850 for worship services. Tony Thornton is pastor.

___Deaths
___ Vera Price, 106, Oct. 6 in Anson. She was a member of Prairie View Church in Anson for 94 years and held every position in the church except pastor.
___ Tom Small, 77, Oct. 17. An emeritus Southern Baptist missionary to Zimbabwe and Zambia, he was appointed in 1955. Small primarily was involved in education and evangelism, serving as principal of a primary school and founder of a correspondence school and Baptist Theological Seminary in Zambia and its extensions. Small also taught at the seminary and wrote curriculum materials for it. Small was born in Pinehill, a Howard Payne College graduate and the pastor of several Texas churches prior to his missionary service. He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons Tom Jr. and Roy; daughter, Esther Small; and three grandchildren.
___ Clyde Hurst, 91, Oct. 21 in Abilene. Hurst was professor of Bible emeritus at Hardin-Simmons University. He was a member of HSU's Bible and philosophy departments from 1950 until his retirement in 1976. He also was pastor of churches in Alabama and Texas. His wife, Kathleen, died last year. He is survived by his brothers, Hugh and Coy; and sister, Ozella Gilbert.
___ Glenn Booth, 67, Oct. 22 in Tyler. Booth was director of counseling and psychological services for the Baptist General Convention of Texas for 12 years before his retirement last year. Before coming to the BGCT in 1988, Booth was associate pastor for counseling and family enrichment at Green Acres Church in Tyler for six years. Previously, he was minister of family enrichment for First Church in Wichita Falls, chaplain at Memorial Hospital System in Houston, associate pastor of Park Place Church in Houston, chaplain at Lufkin State School, and pastor of First Church in Tenaha. While studying at Southwestern Seminary, he was pastor of Pollok Church in Pollok and Purves Church in Dublin. He was a charter member of the Southern Baptist and Texas Baptist family ministers associations, a fellow of the College of Chaplains and a member of the American Protestant Health Association. He is survived by his wife, Betty; sons, Dale, David and James; and three grandchildren.
